Albert "Papi" Valdez Memorial Scholarship

Lt. Albert “Papi” Valdez was a career firefighter with Plano Fire Rescue and a police officer with the City of Gunter. He unexpectedly passed away on December 6, 2023, just two days shy of receiving his Fire Science degree from Collin College. He is survived by Collin College staff member, Del Valdez, who works in the Veteran Resource Center on the McKinney Campus. As a father of eight and “Papi” to 5 grandchildren, Albert had the perfect disposition to guide and encourage up-and-coming first responders.
