Kathleen Blust Tribute
Kathleen retired from Collin College in 2020. She possesses a true passion for the nursing profession and sharing her knowledge of nursing and simulation. She recognized the value of providing quality nursing education and she touched many with her teaching at Collin College, and we hope this scholarship will afford others the same opportunity to touch the lives through nursing.
Kathleen started her nursing career with an Associate Degree in Nursing and continued her education through a Master’s in Nursing. Among Kathleen’s many honors was the Collin College Engaged Faculty Scholarship Award in Professional Nursing. In 2016, she was presented with the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development Teaching and Leadership Excellence Award for demonstrating extraordinary work both in and out of the classroom, in 2018, received the Daisy Award to recognize her extraordinary efforts and impact on nursing students to provide safe, quality, and patient focused care. She was instrumental in starting simulation nursing at Collin College and created many engaging realistic scenarios for students to provide nursing care is a safe environment. In 2017, she became an International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation & Learning (INACSL) Fellow. Many nurse educators have benefited from her remarkable leadership, courage, and example.
